Add the ability to track IDEA services provided to Students (SDC, RSP, DIS, and SED)

The terms SDC, RSP, DIS, and SED all relate to services provided under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). IDEA provides federal funding and mandates that schools provide a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to eligible students through an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

  • Special Day Class (SDC) - A class designed for students with moderate to severe disabilities who spend the majority of their school day receiving specialized instruction and related services in a segregated setting, rather than a general education classroom.

  • Resource Specialist Program (RSP) - A program where students with disabilities spend most of their day in general education classes but receive specialized instruction and services for a portion of the day in a separate, small-group setting (often called a resource room). The teacher is typically a Resource Specialist (RS).

  • Designated Instructional Services (DIS) - Used in some states (like California) to refer to specialized support services necessary for a student to benefit from special education. These can include speech therapy, occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), and counseling services.

  • Seriously Emotionally Disturbed (SED) / Emotional Disturbance (ED) / Emotional and Behavioral Disorder (EBD) - This category relates to students whose emotional or behavioral condition adversely affects their educational performance.

These would be flags on the student record (ie. is_sdc, is_rsp, etc.)
